Ian Preece

My interest in photography and the great outdoors started early. I travelled with my job in oil exploration and purchased my first film camera to capture images of the many places I was lucky enough to visit.

I switched to digital a number of years later. By now my career had changed but the interest in travel and the great outdoors certainly had not. It was whilst I was on a trek in the Himalayas that I partnered with the Hindustan Trekking company, becoming their principal photographer and establishing a business running on-location photography workshops in the Himalayas.

I was accredited by the Royal Photographic Society several years ago and have run regular solo exhibitions in the England and Scotland and more recently New Zealand as well as having images on display in a number of private galleries. I was interviewed by BBC Radio for my one of my  exhibitions, Images of India, in 2014. I have also sold a number of corporate commissions.

We moved to New Zealand for an extended period in the late 1990s where we explored many of the wonderful places it has on offer. We settled in the Coromandel and started to develop a regeneration project in Kuaotunu, one of the most beautiful areas of the Pacific Coastline. 16 years later and this is now our home – an eco-friendly house looking over a private 45 acre sanctuary.

After spending just a few short hours with Ian I got some great tips on how to use my Canon EOS 600D camera. Ian’s guidance on how to plan a shot with timing and light resulted in the most amazing panoramic shots of Mt Ruapehu and Ngaruruhoe. I’m really looking forward to future workshops
